Bargaining:

Just what is bargaining and why is it of any value in a currency website?

Bargaining is a way of determining the best price for a good or service. It is directly related to what a person might consider an item or service is worth to them before the sale is complete. It is a custom with some people that is as old as the hills. Some cultures consider bargaining part of an exchange while other cultures would look at you in horror if you attempted to bargain a price for an item or service. Some of the oldest cultures on this earth always negotiate a sale by arguing the price until it is agreed upon. Sometimes it would seem both parties are upset with each other during the interaction. It is far from the truth. After the exchange, both are happy with the transaction and will be negotiating again in the near future.

In some countries or cultures every purchase comes complete with “haggling” or “Negotiating” with the vendor for the best price. If you don’t haggle with them, the merchant might honestly get upset with you and tell you to go away. It is all part of the exchange experience.

In the United States if you were going to the local Super Market and purchased a grocery cart full of food they would throw you out of the store if you chose to haggle with the checkout attendant on a price of my purchase. At a farmer’s market though, you might stand a better chance of arguing a price. In another country it may be a welcome event. It is always best to educate yourself about what is good or what is unwise where ever you are before you are there.

Some places or businesses in the United States actually expect or leave room for this type of transaction. Bargaining with an auto dealer is totally expected in the United States. Haggling at Flea Markets and most collectible shows is also expected. Negotiating for a better price for a hotel room is possible if the night is slow receiving travelers. Forget the weekends and most destination hot spots.

Most anywhere else in the United States it is either not tolerated or abhorred for such action. Please check the part of the world or culture you are visiting to determine if bargaining is an art that is embraced and enjoyed or totally ignored and unaccepted. Bargaining and bartering or exchanging in cash are one of the many parts of doing business in different parts of the world. Learn about the culture then have fun purchasing. It may be an experience you will always remember.
